Assessing the Damage

This property was previously owned by one of the Monty Python Cast. The property was Grade II listed and was suffering from subsidence caused by the nearby Plain Tree. The plain tree had a Tree Protection Order and could not be cut down. The insurers took the Council to court and the case went all the way to the House of Lords. Their decision was that the tree must stay and that the insurers had to underpin the building.

Subsidence and repairs

Croft Structural & Civil took on the subsidence work and provided the details of the repairs. To repair the building our recommendations would be to place the property on piled ground beams. Piles are placed inside and out side the building and reinforced ground beams are placed between them. On the upper floors wall ties are required to tie the cracked walls.

Managing Works

Croft Structural & Civil took the work to tender to 3 contractors but it was agreed that we would run the project for the client. We ending up project managing the works and issued the necessary valuations and certificates of payment through the work.
