New build construction of a tight inner city site; a new basement and a 4 storey home. A new basement was formed in between two existing buildings, both of which were owned by a private hospital.
Site investigations were completed on the tight site. However during excavations a large old ice store was uncovered that curved across the site and under the adjacent property.
Party wall awards were worked out with 5 different owners, each with their own surveyor and their own opinions. The walls were underpinned with new reinforced retaining walls which provided a strong foundation.
The upper floors were constructed of a steel frame with timber floors and masonry walls.
Croft Structural Engineers Ltd brought more than design knowledge to the build. We also utilised our extensive data base of contractors, ground works and fabricators to help in the tender pro-cess. All of the contractors used were chosen from those recommended by us.
It is always worth remembering that there is more to our service than design. It is the additional extras that make a difference. Croft Structural Engineers Ltd recommendations of contractors reduced the overall build cost by £35,000.
