Conversion of Heritage site

Croft Structural Engineers were commissioned by the Founder of ‘Strike Bowling’ to complete the structural design for one of London’s smartest new bowling alleys. Strike sits inside a Grade II-listed building that forms part of the UK’s oldest brewery in the heart of the historic Ram Brewery regeneration site in Wandsworth.

It's all about Communication

Croft worked together with several professional, such as Heritage Consultant, Planning Consultant, Hospitality Consultant, Architects and Mech.& Elec. Engineer to preserve the existing building. Croft sees engineering also as a driver for preservation of historical heritage. As a practice we believe strongly in the principles of design as a means to minimise environmental impact through the re-use of the existing materials. Making heritage buildings sustainable is just as important as preserving their history.

Preservation of historical heritage

The existing cast iron beams were checked for the proposed load and a clamping system was used to connect the new steelwork into the existing to preserve their integrity. This method was both faster and safer than welding and there was no need for drilling through the steel, which was the main requirement to preserve the existing structure of a grade II Listed building.
