The owner of the lower ground floor flat acquired the coal cellars that protruded under the pavement and road to the front of the building. These were converted into a habitable space; 3 bed rooms, a study and a TV room.
Croft Structural Engineers Ltd completed a survey of the existing structure and the roof was determined to be unsafe. The removal of the roof required the excavation of the road. To eliminate this we decided upon an approach to encapsulate the roof and support it with a new structure.
The floor was lowered with the walls underpinned and new floors cast.
The design incorporated heavy ground works with the road above being support from new steelwork.
