We worked closely with Advantage basements to create this largely open plan, with limited opportunities to position the new load bearing structures. As a result of this Croft had to cut out much of the existing concrete foundations from beneath their steelwork columns and transfer this weight into the ground through a new route.
As with all basements we were tight on space (due to the prohibitive cost of digging any further than necessary.) Few projects run truly smoothly, with this one the existing foundation network proved more extensive and deeper than as shown on the former Structural Engineer’s drawings. This created some challenges in supporting the columns from above.
