A new basement was required under the existing Victorian building. Croft has extensive knowledge of the area and has worked on numerous properties in Clapham.
Our local knowledge raised concerns over the formation of this new basement on the River Terrace gravels local to the common. Digging in the gravels can be like digging on the beach; care had to be taken to prevent the sands flowing into the basement. Croft increased the temporary works to the basement to help restrain the soils.
The pictures are testament to how a lovely basement can be formed without any indication of the problems of the site.
