This house is a large detached 3 storey Victorian property which has undergone previous internal renovation works. Croft was brought in to design the new reinforced concrete basement for the full house footprint including light wells to the front, rear and side of the property.
A large light well was constructed to the rear of the house with planters and outside space. A new steel balcony was designed to gain access to the garden from the ground floor and cantilevers nicely over the new rear light well.
Difficulties encountered on this project included the high concentrated point loads from the previous renovation. Working closely with the contractor, Croft was able to develop a safe method of propping the loads above and inserting the basement structure.
Croft’s knowledge of local ground conditions and reinforced concrete, along with a strong working relationship with the Architect and Basement Contractor helped to make this project a great success.
