Royal Borough of Kensington + Chelsea

The restoration of a substantial terraced Victorian property in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The works included retaining only the front and part of the rear façade and the addition of a full basement covering part of the vaults to the front and rear of the property extending under the main public pathways.

Supporting a two-storey basement

A truss was designed and specified to support the rear of the two-storey basement. We discussed the possible sequence of works: the temporary works were supported off steel column plunge piles to allow for better connections on the steelwork and easier dismantling of the temporary works at the final stage.

The biggest challenge was the support of the 12m wall to the rear which was to be supported while the basement was constructed and while the existing wall was underpinned in sections.

Croft's Method Statement

The structural drawings and phases for the installation of the substructure temporary works were also outlined within Croft's Method Statement and calculations provided for the temporary works.
