This substantial 4 storey terraced property situated near Clapham Common has undergone previous internal renovation works. Croft were commissioned by Advantage Basements to complete the structural design for a full footprint basement extending into the garden.
The rear part of the existing building has a ground bearing slab with finishes that the client wanted to keep. Hence, Croft came up with a bespoke solution to allow the building to be underpinned without affecting the interior space.
The basement in the garden area is designed with a top reinforced concrete roof slab. In this area, we considered the contribution of the roof slab to optimise the retaining walls. We designed it to be as slender as possible, thereby saving the client money on construction costs.
You can see from the pictures the valuable family space that has been created, an impressive 24m in length.
