Residential Development -
Redcliffe Gardens Chelsea SW10
The developer client had ambitious plans to convert and renovate the property into five luxury flats. Croft Structural Engineers helped by surveying the building to determine the structural repairs required for the many defects, and then completing the designs to finish the conversion.
The building had been neglected for years and there were many areas where repairs were undertaken; masonry rebuilt and tying detailed.
The old coal basement was deepened and converted into a new basement kitchen space that added an additional flat to the ground floor. The basement was slotted under the stairs of the entrance portico. A masonry arch was found supporting the stairs. Arches produce lateral thrust. This sideways force had to be restrained while the basement was formed under.
Added to this many of the floors and rooms were opened up to provide more spacious modern living apartments.
