Renovation - 1960 Office Complex
Croydon, Surrey CR0
A full renovation of the building was undertaken to bring a new vibrant feel to an old building.
At Croft we were involved with providing structural advice and details to complete the M&E alterations of the work. Ducts were cut through concrete slabs and sections of structure were removed. With no drawings of the existing structure, Croft commissioned ultra sound and x-ray testing of the concrete to determine its construction.
To the front of the building the entrance was improved. The ground floor was extended to increase the amount of floor area available for letting.
Sandbergs use of ferro scanning produce a visual image of rebar contained within a slab/RC member. This is accurate for around 100/150, i.e. one face of a slab. The process is repeated on both faces of the slab, and rebar is determined. For scale purposes this is backed up with braking out the concrete to reveal some of the afore mentioned rebar, where it can be measured off.
In addition the concrete was tested for cube strength in the laboratory. This information enabled us to determine the slab strength and our recommendation on (number) slab strengthening were based upon it.
With the correct skill set Croft has the ability to complete works of new, old and historic buildings.
