New Build Apartments, Sutton

The developer required a small bungalow plot to be flattened, and a new three storey development formed of four duplex flats to be constructed.

The construction techniques were traditional construction; mass concrete footings, load bearing masonry cavity walls, beam and block floors and cut timber roof. The contractor was very proficient but required guidance in the steelwork section of the build. It was for this reason that Croft Structural Engineers Ltd were employed.

A spiral concrete staircase was required and this had been intended to be prefabricated and constructed on site. The cost of each stairs was prohibitive, and a site solution was required. With the skills within Croft Structural Engineers Ltd we were able to draw the timber stringer plans to allow the form-work to be cut on site. The stairs were cast, and the building has now been occupied for several years without any complaints.
