From the very beginning

Croft completed the structural design for a complete reconfiguration of this 3 storey detached property in Wimbledon. This included a rear and side extension and the construction of a single storey basement under the entire footprint of the property. Our extensive knowledge of subterranean developments meant that we were involved from the planning process to the end of the construction stage.

Health + Safety is key

We provided the Subterranean Structural Statement required as part of the planning process for Merton Council. The purpose of this is to highlight that adequate investigations have been undertaken on site and to demonstrate that works can be undertaken without risks. Where a risk was noted, Croft were able to provide methods to mitigate these risks and ensure that construction was completed without any impact to the adjacent properties. This is a process that is now followed by most of the councils in London and is a requirement to achieve planning.

Stability Frames

The retaining walls were designed as cantilevered and a metal deck was specified for the construction of the new extension at ground floor level. This also allowed the deck to act as a crash deck for ease of the basement construction. Where the existing timber floor was to remain a series of steels were introduced to support the existing floor. To ensure the stability of the existing structure, we designed a series of stability frames which allowed the existing external walls to be removed and the new extension to be built.
