This substantial Victorian property required a new basement to be formed under the existing building. The foundations were underpinned with specialist reinforced concrete walls and foundations to allow for stability for lateral loads from the soils.
The building had been altered and changed in the past. Good local knowledge is essential, and the construction trade is about whom one knows. The builders who completed the ground floor were known to Croft. They were happy to have an informal chat about how they had cast the previous foundations. This local knowledge was invaluable in creating the new basement.
