Croft Structural Engineers believes that Research is essential to maintain an edge in the current environment.
Currently Croft Structural Engineers are working closely with Vencel Resil in the production of SIPS (Structurally Insulated Panels). OSB Timber boarding is bonded either side of Expanded Polystyrene. This creates a strong composite material with good strength, thermal and acoustic properties. It has been used in the construction of several new build homes around the country.
At present testing is still underway at Taylor Woodrow Testing Facility in Hertfordshire and we are in discussions with Lectures at Napier University to determine how to fully utilise the product.
On a different topic we are in discussion with Lecturers at The Department of the Built Environment to at West Glamorgan University to help with the design of an earth sheltered house. The intention is to place the home inside a hill to help reduce thermal losses and to create a development with little intrusion into the local environment.
