Leisure Buildings

Stoke Newington Reservoir

By Marks Bartfield Architects (Designers of the London Eye)

Sports Center with two single storey wings constructed above an old water treatment works.  Renovation of central tower also included.

A new exposed steel frame was required to form a new enclosure for changing rooms, and teaching spaces.  The exposed steel frame required our engineers to tailor their design to not only be function but aesthetic.  Close working with the architects formed a pleasing structure.

Overall project costs were £2,5M and the contract was let on a design & build basis and was completed under secondment to Durkans.

Swimming Pool for Hertfordshire University

By Austin Smith Lord Architects

A new swimming pool and sports centre was designed to complement the University village.  The swimming pool required long exposed trussed beams for the room.   The floor of the pool was designed to move to allow greater flexibility of use.

Within the entrance lobby a climbing frame was also designed.  The large high spaces with glazed views called for significant amounts of exposed steelwork.  We were so pleased with the final design that we incorporated it into our logo.
