Scar Mills Huddersfield

Croft Structural Engineers were employed as part of the design and build team to undertake the conversion of a 1800 mill building into apartments.

The large open roof trusses were utilised within the design.

the floors were strong enough to take the increased vertical loads, but additional strengthening works were undertaken due to the increased risk of gas explosion.

The site was founded on a steep hill.  To be able to achieve the required car park terraces were formed.  Local stone walls were accompanied with permacrib walling.

David Elias Synagogue

Alteration works requiring the extension of an existing synagogue.

New single storey extension with large 8m clear span rooms with tight access made this project interesting.

Brixton Rd

A run down old property plagued with squatters was the challenge on this project.  The intention was to add four stories to the rear and a new penthouse to the top.

Croft Structural Engineers surveyed the property and specified the remedial repairs to the Victorian Structure.

To the rear the existing ground floor walls and foundations were used.  To ensure the loads were not concentrated a concrete ring beam was cast at first floor level.  From this an additional three stories of masonry were constructed.
